Health is one of the most valuable foundations of any society. A community’s ability to thrive—socially, economically, and culturally—depends greatly on the physical and mental wellbeing of its people. When individuals are healthy, they can pursue education, engage in meaningful work, care for their families, and contribute to the development of their communities. Recognising this, we have always placed health at the centre of our mission. Since our early days, we have committed ourselves to improving the health of our society by supporting initiatives that bring essential services closer to those who need them most.
Many f our communities, especially in underserved areas, struggle to access basic healthcare due to geographical barriers, lack of transportation, or inadequate infrastructure. These limitations often delay vital interventions and disproportionately affect vulnerable groups, particularly mothers and children. As an organisation dedicated to uplifting the wellbeing of our society, we have consistently sought opportunities to address these gaps and strengthen the public health landscape.
One of the latest and most significant efforts in this regard is our support for an innovative project proposed by Dr. Muraleeswaran, the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS), Batticaloa. As outlined in the project proposal, Public Health Midwives (PHMs) in the region face difficulties reaching remote villages where essential maternal and child health services are urgently needed. These frontline health workers play a vital role in conducting immunisation follow-ups, providing antenatal and postnatal care, and facilitating emergency referrals. However, without reliable transportation, their ability to deliver timely and effective care is severely limited.
Understanding the profound impact that improved mobility can have on healthcare delivery, we are pleased to support this important initiative by donating four electric scooters valued at Rs. 1,960,000/- to the RDHS, Batticaloa. This contribution is more than a donation of equipment—it is an investment in the health and future of countless families across the region. Electric scooters offer a practical, sustainable, and cost-effective solution that will enable PHMs to travel more efficiently, expand their outreach, and ensure that no village is left behind.
The Trustees of OSUK are delighted to announce that £4,869 (equivalent to SL Rs. 1,960,000/-) has been released for the purchase of these four electric scooters.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all four donors whose generosity made this project possible. Their support not only empowers health workers but also brings hope and improved healthcare access to underserved families. Together, we continue to build healthier, stronger communities—one meaningful initiative at a time.
