Project: Comprehensive Mathematics Seminars

We received a project proposal from the OS Batticaloa Chapter requesting financial assistance to conduct comprehensive O/L Mathematics seminars for a minimum of 2,250 students from underserved villages. The primary objective is to improve the pass rate in Mathematics, enabling more students to qualify for GCE (A/L) studies.
It is important to note that without a pass in GCE (O/L) Mathematics, students are unable to progress to GCE (A/L). Having assessed the need across four educational zones, the trustees of OSUK are pleased to approve funding for this project.
Boosting Mathematical Excellence: A Report on the G.C.E. O/L Mathematics Seminar Series
In a dedicated effort to elevate the standard of mathematics education and empower students in the Batticaloa district, a series of targeted G.C.E. Ordinary Level Mathematics seminars was launched in October 2025. This initiative aims to provide students with advanced conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and the confidence needed to excel in their national examinations.
The program has seen remarkable early success, with two highly productive seminars already conducted, benefitting hundreds of students from across the region.
Expanding on Success: Seminar Series Continues to Grow
Building upon the solid foundation of our initial sessions, the G.C.E. O/L Mathematics seminar series has now achieved a significant new milestone. To date, 10 highly successful seminars have been conducted, collectively benefitting hundreds of students from a wide range of schools across the district.
Given this success and the clear demand for continued support, we are happy to announce that the initiative is being expanded. An additional 4 to 8 seminars are now being organized and are scheduled to be conducted in the near future.

The first two seminars were graciously sponsored by the Batticaloa Municipal Council. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Council and, in particular, to Mr. Thananjeyan, the Commissioner of the Municipal Council, for his pivotal role in securing the necessary funds. His support was instrumental in laying a strong foundation for this program.

The Path Forward: A Conduit to Academic Success
We are confident that these initial seminars have effectively charted a clear path for academic progress. By providing intensive coaching and clarifying complex mathematical concepts, the program is strategically designed to:
- Improve Exam Results: Directly enhance student performance in the upcoming G.C.E. O/L Mathematics examination.
- Facilitate Advanced Study: Create a pathway for a majority of participating students to achieve the required grades to proceed to G.C.E. Advanced Level studies, thereby broadening their future academic and professional opportunities.
