Our Society UK is committed to fostering educational development and opportunities for students in the various regions of Sri Lanka. Our approach is built on a foundation of sustainable partnerships, direct financial support, and diligent follow-up to ensure that our contributions lead to tangible, positive outcomes for students and the wider community.
We collaborate closely with a dedicated team on the ground, including the Educational Secretary for Our Society Batticaloa (a former Eastern Provincial Director of Education) and local Assistant Secretaries, who provide invaluable expertise and oversight. This structure allows us to effectively liaise with educational authorities, centre managers, teachers, and families. Our work involves not only funding vital programs but also conducting regular monitoring visits to assess progress, offer encouragement, and maintain the strong relationships that are key to our success. Through this hands-on approach, we aim to empower students to achieve their academic potential and build a brighter future.
Visit to New Valathapitty Arivagam – 15th February 2026
On the 15th of February 2026, a delegation from Our Society UK and its local branch conducted a monitoring and support visit to the New Valathapitty Arivagam. The team comprised Miss Ahila Canagasooriyam (Educational Secretary, OS Batticaloa / former Eastern Provincial Director of Education), Mr. Puvanaraj (Assistant Secretary, OS Batticaloa), and Mr. Sam Venugopal (Our Society U.K.). The purpose of the visit was to hold discussions with the centre manager, Mr. Jeyachandran, as well as the parents, teachers, and students, to review the centre’s progress and future needs.
Key Outcomes and Observations:
GCE O/L Examination Prospects: We were pleased to learn that 16 students from the Arivagam are preparing to sit for the forthcoming GCE Ordinary Level examinations. Based on continuous assessments by their teachers, there is strong confidence that 12 of these students will successfully pass and proceed to their Advanced Level studies. This promising outlook is a testament to the dedication of both the students and the teaching staff.
Academic Excellence: The teachers’ assessments also highlighted several students with the potential for outstanding performance. It was reported that four students are likely to achieve an ‘A’ grade in Mathematics, and an impressive four to six students are capable of obtaining five ‘A’ grades across their subjects. We look forward to celebrating their achievements when the results are released.
Higher Education Support
In line with Our Society UK’s commitment to supporting students beyond secondary school, we confirmed that four students have now been newly registered to pursue external degree courses. The costs for these studies are being fully funded by Our Society UK, enabling these individuals to access higher education and improve their long-term prospects.
Our Society UK extends its sincere gratitude to the parents, students, and teachers of New Valathapitty Arivagam for their valuable presence and active participation during the visit. Their commitment is the driving force behind the centre’s positive environment and academic progress. We also thank Mr. Jeyachandran for his leadership and our local team for their continued dedication.
