Empowering The Underprivileged Children
Introduction:
In early 2023, the Sittandi village learning centre and hostel was opened for underprivileged children and embarked on a mission to provide education and support to those living in remote villages. Starting with a humble beginning of 15 children, this project aimed to create a nurturing environment where these children could thrive academically, physically, and emotionally. Let’s delve into the success and impact of the Eralakkulan Special Education Development Program.
Creating a Home Away from Home:
The Sittandi project went beyond just providing education; it aimed to create a holistic environment for the children. The students were not only given access to learning facilities but also received assistance with their studies. Furthermore, they were provided with full meals, engaged in extra-curricular activities such as sports, and even had the opportunity to cultivate a small-scale vegetable plot, fostering a sense of self-sufficiency.
Thriving in Company:
Despite being far away from their parents, the children found solace in the companionship they developed with one another. The supportive environment at the Sittandi village learning centre and hostel allowed them to grow and flourish, both academically and emotionally. This sense of camaraderie played a vital role in their overall well-being and happiness.

Success and Progress:
As the first project of its kind, the results have been positive and satisfying. Late in 2023, most students achieved exceptional results in their exams. Eight children successfully progressed to Grade 6, out of which three were given the opportunity to stay at Kallady Rama Krishna Mission hostel and attend school there. Three more students will continue their education at Sittandi Madhya Maha Vidyalam, while three more were accommodated at Yogaswami Illam. Two students found a home with their relatives, ensuring that they continue to receive support and care.
A Groundbreaking Concept:
The Sittandi Sri Lanka Project stands as a pioneering initiative in providing education to children who would otherwise struggle due to their remote locations. By bringing education closer to their homes, this project has opened doors of opportunity for these children. The dedication and commitment of the team behind this project are commendable, as they continue to learn and grow, adapting to the needs of the children they serve.

Self Sufficiency:
Moreover, as part of our self-sufficiency initiative, we have integrated a chicken farming operation and a vegetable plot into the project. This innovative approach allows us to generate partial funding by selling excess produce to the external market. This sustainable initiative enhances the overall impact of our project, aligning with our commitment to creating an environment that not only facilitates academic growth but also contributes to the project’s financial sustainability.
Academic Success:
In the midst of our ongoing Sittandi Project to revitalise Education in remote areas we are thrilled to share an important achievement in our educational endeavors. Twelve students, falling under the special needs category, have not only successfully completed their examinations but have also qualified for a bursary. This accomplishment underscores the positive impact of our commitment to creating an ideal space for learning and growth.
In conclusion, The Eralakkulan Special Education Development Program at Sittandi village learning center and hostel has proven to be successful in its initial stages. By providing not only education but also a nurturing environment, this project has empowered underprivileged children and given them hope for a brighter future. As the project continues to evolve and expand, the impact on the lives of these children will undoubtedly be even more profound. The Sittandi Sri Lanka Project serves as an inspiration for future endeavours aimed at bridging educational gaps and uplifting disadvantaged communities.
